Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born on April 4th in 1972. She was raised by her grandmother and she was an only child. Scott attended The Philadelphia High School for Girls After graduating, she entered Temple University. She completed her secondary education her time at Temple University while working on two other jobs. She hoped to become a teacher of English in a secondary institution. She was unable to fulfill this dream when, after studying for three years while working as a teacher assistant, she left college. As a poet She began to sing in poetry performances live. Then she joined along with Amir Quest Thompson (of The Roots) to create the group. The two ended up working together and co-writing You Got Me. She was first outed in the midst of a Roots Show. She then secured collaborations, for instance, with Eric Benet Will Smith, and Common. She gained performance experience in the Canada Tour of Broadway's musical Rent. She was the very first artist to sign by Hidden Beach Recordings.
